Premier Roger Cook has today attended the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Business and Investment Summit, which brings together 2,000 world leaders, CEOs and senior executives.

Western Australia's total trade in goods with ASEAN countries was $40.6 billion in 2022-23. If considered as a single market, ASEAN is the State's second largest trading partner.

Premier Cook spoke at a Plenary Session alongside ASEAN leaders, which included the Indonesian Tourism Minister and the Secretary General of the Chinese Chamber of International Commerce.

The panel reflected on WA's relationship with the region and ASEAN's evolving role in the global economy.

This year's theme for the Summit is 'ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth' and aims to strengthen regional resilience and connectivity.

The Summit offers the chance to explore business opportunities, with ASEAN countries being key markets under Western Australia's Asian Engagement Strategy.

The strategy aims to maximise trade and investment outcomes with Asia and support the establishment of new networks and communities for WA businesses.

The Cook Government is currently leading the State's largest overseas investment and trade mission.

The mission, led by Premier Cook, is made up of 130 WA business, industry, media and government representatives, providing a platform to promote the State as a recognised and trusted partner in Indonesia.

Comments attributed to Premier Roger Cook:

"With Perth located closer to Jakarta than Sydney, the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit presents a fantastic opportunity to highlight the value proposition of doing business with WA to our regional neighbours.

"South East Asia has some of the world's fastest growing economies which offer a huge range of opportunities for WA to engage in mutually beneficial trade and investment.

"Investment and trade is the lifeblood of the Western Australian economy and my Government is dedicated to diversifying its exports and strengthening engagement across the region."
